( go directly to the next step in this guide, here).
Using the import template for categories
If you want to work with the import template that's for categories, then you start with downloading the template file. It can be downloaded through the drop down Template Type and choosing Category, then clicking on Download template file
- Fill then in the data that shall be imported into the file. You can either create new categories via the import or update existing categories. A new category is created automatically if the field Id is empty.
Description of the different fields can be read by clicking on View template description.
If you are working with a Mac, make sure to save the file with correct encoding (UFT-8) when you save in excel. - When you are done with your file, you continue by uploading it. Click on Select file and choose the file you want to import. Set which type of file that's being uploaded by choosing file type in the drop down File Extension, choosing category in the template type list and click on Next
Match fields in the import tool
Fields with padlocks (requires match) icones are mandatory and need to be matched for the import to be made.
If you are going to update a category then only match the fields you want to update. If you match an empty field for e.g Name then it will replace the existing name and become empty
If you are using a import template then there will be automatically matched fields. Belows shown an import with the import template where the fields are matched.
If you want some fields to not be included in the import, then you need to take them away. The picture below shows an import with the import template where it's been chosen to not include the fields for metaTitle, MetaDescription and MetaKeywords.
You take away fields by using the drag&drop and dragging the fields under Your file and dropping them in the box under Not matched from your file.
If you are working with a file that's not based on the existing import template, then the colums can be named differently and you need to match them yourself (see example picture below)
You do this by using drap&drop and dragging the different names that are in Not matched from your file, to the place beside the field you want it to match with.
After you have matched the fields you want to have, (required fields need to be matched) then you click Start import
The import is done when it says 100%. In the colum to the right there's a summary of the import.
